Frequently Asked Questions
Which Pressha material is right for sensitive skin?
Pressha offers ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium, 316L surgical steel, and select brass pieces. ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium is the material direction many piercers choose for fresh piercings and customers with metal sensitivities. Always check the individual product page for the exact material and finish, and ask your piercer if you are unsure.
What should I know about brass jewelry?
Brass is a copper-and-zinc alloy used for select decorative pieces. It can naturally darken over time and may leave temporary greenish or gray discoloration on skin, especially with sweat, water, or product buildup. Do not use brass as initial jewelry in an unhealed piercing. Treat it as decorative jewelry for a fully healed piercing unless a qualified professional piercer advises otherwise, and follow the product-specific care guidance.
Is Pressha jewelry nickel-free?
Material matters. Pressha’s ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium pieces are the nickel-free option. 316L surgical steel contains nickel, and brass should not be assumed to be nickel-free, so neither may be suitable if you have a known nickel allergy or strong sensitivity. Check the product page before ordering.
Can I change jewelry in an unhealed piercing?
No. Do not change jewelry yourself while a piercing is unhealed unless a qualified professional piercer specifically advises it. A piercer should handle any necessary downsize, fit adjustment, or material change during healing. Once a piercing is fully healed, calm, and pain-free, you can change the jewelry yourself if you are comfortable and have the correct size and closure.
What is the difference between threadless, internally threaded, and externally threaded jewelry?
Threadless jewelry uses a small pin with spring tension. Its slight pre-bend presses inside the hollow post to help keep the decorative top secure, so do not straighten, over-bend, twist, or force it. Internally threaded jewelry has the threading inside the post, and the top screws into it. Externally threaded jewelry has threads on the outside of the post, which can drag against or irritate tissue during insertion and removal. Check the product listing for the closure type. Do not change jewelry yourself in an unhealed piercing unless a qualified professional piercer specifically advises it.
Will my jewelry tarnish, turn green, or rust?
Care depends on the material and finish. Titanium and 316L surgical steel are durable materials, but plated or PVD finishes can change over time with friction, chlorine, salt water, perfume, and harsh chemicals. Brass can darken naturally and may transfer a temporary greenish or gray color to skin. Keep jewelry clean and dry, avoid unnecessary soaking, and follow the care guidance on the product page.
How do I choose the right jewelry size?
Gauge is the thickness of the post. Hoops are sized by inner diameter, while flat-back studs are sized by post length or wearable length. The same gauge can fit differently depending on the piercing location because the post length and inner diameter change the fit. Use the measurements listed on the product page and ask a professional piercer if you are unsure.
- 20G or 18G: common nose jewelry sizes
- 16G: common for septum, cartilage, lip, and flat-back labret jewelry
- 14G: common for navel and nipple jewelry
Can I shower, swim, or work out in Pressha jewelry?
For a fully healed piercing, showering and working out are usually manageable with basic care. Chlorine, salt water, sweat, perfume, and harsh chemicals can irritate the piercing or affect a finish, so avoid pools and soaking when possible, then rinse and dry the jewelry. Avoid swimming or soaking with a fresh or irritated piercing and follow your piercer’s guidance.
How do I clean and care for my Pressha jewelry?
Wash your hands before handling jewelry. For a healing piercing, use sterile piercing-safe saline and avoid twisting or over-handling the piece. For loose jewelry, clean it gently as directed and dry it thoroughly. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, harsh cleaners, perfume, chlorine, and unnecessary soaking. Brass needs extra care because moisture and product buildup can speed up darkening or discoloration. Care can vary by material and finish, so follow the product-specific guidance.
